Biography

So who is Lindsey B? Well…that’s me! Lindsey Brown.

I’m a New Zealand playwright, based in Auckland, whose passion for the performing arts started at a young age. Initially a keen musical theatre and improv performer, I then moved into the world of writing. I obtained a Masters of Scriptwriting from Auckland University of Technology, and since then I haven’t looked back.

I have had pieces performed around the world, including London, New York, Hollywood, Florida, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Sydney, Dubai, Queenstown and Auckland.

My plays range from one minute to full length, with roles for ages 5-99, meaning there is something for everyone! I also have collections and full length productions created especially for schools. These were created with knowledge and experience I gained being a classroom teacher for more than fifteen years.

My plays have had the honor of winning a number of national and international awards, including the Chameleon Theatre Circle 24th Annual New Play Contest 2023, Mixing It Up Productions New York One Act Competition 2022,  Winner of the Long Beach Playhouse New Works Festival 2022 and winner of Show Off 2022 for Camino Real Playhouse, California. In 2020 I was also the recipient of the PANZ Outstanding Achievement Award.

I often favour comedy in my writing, believing that when we laugh, we are most open to learn. I also think it’s more fun to write! My plays contain strong roles for women that like to challenge those themes that are universal to us all.
